Why Journaling Isn’t Enough: Unlocking the Natural Intelligence of Your Body

Ever felt incomplete or unresolved after a journalling session? Like you've written down more questions than answers? 🤯

I’ve been there too.

We all know journaling can be a powerful tool. There’s something about writing your thoughts on paper (or in a notes app) that gives us a little breathing room—creating space between your mind and whatever you’re grappling with.

Sometimes, that’s exactly what we need: a chance to step back, gain perspective, or even have those “lightbulb” moments where things click into place.

But maybe you’ve felt that you can only get so far with writing, and you’re not sure why. I mean everyone says to journal right?

If you’ve ever found yourself writing about the same problem again and again, feeling stuck in the same pattern, or not quite finding the resolution you’re looking for, that’s because journalling taps into just one part of yourself; your mind.

The deeper healing, resolution, you’re seeking doesn’t just sit in your mind, it’s held in your body.

If you’re someone who tends to overthink, you might know what it feels like to spiral in your thoughts, bumping up against the same patterns and problems, with no real change or resolution.

Or maybe you notice you’re stuck in the same patterns, repeating the same cycles, and nothing seems to shift no matter how much you reflect or write.

So much of what we don’t fully process—old hurts, stress, and emotions—gets stored as residue in the body.

These unprocessed experiences shape who we are and how we respond to the world. They may manifest as tightness in your chest, tension in your shoulders, or that sinking feeling in your stomach; the sensations you may notice in your body. Maybe it’s emotions bubbling just below the surface, waiting to be expressed but feels like it’s stuck. Or perhaps you’ve noticed yourself reacting in old, familiar ways with certain people, like slipping into your teenage self when talking to your parents, ways that may not align with who you are today and who you really want to be.

This is where the magic of somatic work comes in.

While journaling helps you reflect and gain clarity, somatic work goes deeper—into the body, where the deep, embodied transformation happens.

Our body holds onto the residue of life’s experiences, and by working with these sensations, we can create space for this residue to be felt and released, allowing true healing to happen. Where we work with the nervous system and the ways our body responds in the event of something stressful.

It’s about reconnecting to your body’s natural intelligence, completing the cycles of stress or emotions that feel unresolved, and creating space for new, more empowering ways of being to come online.

Through Somatic Coaching, we work gently with the body to process what’s been lingering beneath the surface, allowing for inner rewiring, reorganization, metabolizing and deep healing to occur. This work helps you shift from feeling stuck in repetitive cycles to experiencing profound, lasting change.

If this resonates, and you’re curious about exploring this deeper level of healing, I invite you to join me for a Somatic Coaching session. Together we’ll create space for your body’s wisdom to guide your healing and experience the shifts you’ve been yearning for.
